Deviance

Deviance is any action that violates a social norm, and they may be illegal or not. For instance, breaking a law, lying, alcoholism, being rude to others, stealing, or even picking one's nose in public. However, for an action to be considered a deviant act sometimes would depend on what is considered normal. In other words, society's expectation counts. Whether we are conscious or not some of us may be consider deviants for just being part of minority group.

  1. I agree and also In my opinion, deviance really just refers to behavior that is not patterned similarly to others, or behavior that goes against public sensibility, but we tend to think of it in terms of criminality or bad behavior. The teen pregnancy example has been widely used in the past, so you may want to go with something different that you come up with on your own--look to life course theory research for ideas.
